Summer is no time to rest and relax for biathletes. It is competition time!
Over the summer, biathletes from all over Australia competed in 4 Summer Series Competitions. The events were held in NSW, ACT and VIC. The range of locations ensured a great representation from our biathlon community.
Newington Armory hosted the first Summer Race Series of the year. The event took place on the 3rd of April and included races for males and females across all ages and levels. The competition day was sunny despite many days of rain leading up to the event. The competitors produced impressive performances in their respective races. The second Summer Series race took place in the second week of term 1 holidays, on the 13th of April. Canberra Rifle Club hosted the competition which followed the format of running and .22 shooting. It was a great “back-to-competition” for many of the athletes.
The third Summer Series Races took place at Mt Stromlo Criterium and followed the format of Super Sprint time trial and Mass start. Damika Morton produced a spectacular performance of 7 minutes and 52 seconds, winning her the overall first place with the fastest sprint time of the day. Congratulations Damika!
Damika Fimally, on the 24th of April, Mount Hotham held the 4th of the current Summer Series events. The event was a modified .22 running biathlon and individual race. The shooting accuracy and speed impressed all of the spectators and the biathletes who competed should be very proud of their performances. The results of the race can be viewed here.
Congratulations to these wonderful competitors on their awesome performances in all four of the summer series events. Thank you to all the parent volunteers for supporting these events, so they could take place, your support is extremely appreciated.
