Biathlon Australia has announced the 2024 National Championships due to be held 19-21 July has been cancelled due to unfortunate weather and snow conditions at the Whiskey Flat Biathlon Arena, Mount Hotham.
While some snow has fallen over the past two days, trails only have a thin cover with wet snow unable to be groomed.
With more snow forecast over the coming days, Biathlon Australia will hold a replacement activity.
At this stage, contingent on weather and snow conditions, Biathlon Australia will hold the following, for all athletes that have registered to attend this weekend’s National Championships:
Saturday 20 July
- A training session for Juniors (U22) from 10am to 12pm, led by Hotham Head Coach, Agnieszka Cyl
- A rifle cleaning clinic at the Moth, run by Aga from 12pm to 12.30pm
- A waxing clinic at the Moth, run by Mikael Cyl from 12.30pm to 1pm
- A training session for athletes over 21 years of age including Masters from 2pm to 4pm, run by Aga
Sunday 21 July
- Zeroing commencing at 9am
- A shooting competition at 10am (with results used to determine the starting order for the Super Sprint)
- Sunday Super Sprint Event (including National Para Championships Event) at 11am
- An IBU Super Sprint Event which will consist of 3 x 1.5km loops with two shooting stages – Prone & Standing
If snow conditions do not permit a Super Sprint Event to be held, an alternative event will take place. Registrations will remain open until Friday midday.
Commons waxing will take place:
- Athletes are asked to hand in their skis to be used in the Super Sprint Qualification Event on Saturday as soon as possible.
- Juniors must hand them in at the moth at the latest by 12.30pm on Saturday.
- Everyone else must hand them in at the moth by 4pm on Saturday.
- Skis will be available for athletes to collect prior to the Super Sprint Qualification Event.
