During the recent NSW school holidays, Biathlon Australia held some great school holiday programs at Perisher.
While a lack of snow prevented a racing event being held, all participants enjoyed a great week of learning more about biathlon and improving their skills.
The 50m laser system was set up along with the 10m laser systems for younger athletes.
Sessions were run by IBU-qualified coach, Julia Smusz, and included dry-land activities for those experiencing their first on-snow biathlon sessions. With those student attenting alongside those who have been involved in previous years, it was great to see the laser biathlon range back in action at Perisher.
A Come-and-Try session was also held, with many new faces lining up to hit the targets with the laser systems.
Included in the programs, was the return of the PLC Sydney “Evandale” (K to 2) students for their session of introductory laser biathlon.
PLC Sydney have a great record in developing and supporting high performing biathletes with Lucy Glanville (WYOG Innsbruck 2012, OWG Sochi 2014), Chelsey Johnson (WYOG Lausanne 2020) and Ally Sydun-West (WYOG Gangwon 2024) all having attended PLC as students.
With the upcoming Schools Biathlon races in August as part of the NSW Interschools week, biathlon is back at Perisher in a big way for 2024.
