Biathlon Australia had developed a set of insurance guidelines regarding training and competing overseas at international events for member athletes who are part of Biathlon Australia National Team programs. The guidelines ensure the requirements of the Internatiional Biathlon Union (IBU) are met.
1) Australian Biathlon Insurance Policy - for participation in biathlon events outside of Australia
This policy is applicable to all athletes attending training camps and racing at events (including IBU events) as part of Biathlon Australia's programs (therefore under BA supervision), outside of Australia.

To compete internationally at IBU sanctioned events it is a requirement of IBU that Biathlon Australia ensure all Australian competitors hold insurance that specifically covers competitive biathlon events.
For your insurance cover to be accepted by Biathlon Australia, it must meet, at a minimum, the following requirements as stated within the IBU Event and Competition Rules:
IBU Event and Competition Rules: 1.6.1.2 1.6.1.2 All athletes competing in IBU events must possess both sufficient liability insurance, and sufficient accident insurance covering accident, recovery and transport costs - including competitionrelated risks - to an adequate extent. ln addition, by the act of submitting their registration the NF confirms that its athletes are medically fit to compete at the time of submitting their registration. All coaches, team staff and officials registered and/or deployed by a national federation to an IBU event must possess both sufficient liability insurance, and sufficient accident insurance covering accident, recovery and transport costs to an adequate extent. National federations are responsible for ensuring that their athletes, coaches, team staff and officials registered and deployed by them have the appropriate insurance coverage. National federations and/or their athletes must be able to furnish proof of the respective insurance coverage at any time upon the request of the IBU, of the IBU’s representatives and/or of the organizing committee concerned. |
